COURSE CONTENT

MODULE 1 & 2: FIRE TEAM MEMBER

Module 1


  1. The elements of fire
  2. Classes of fire
  3. How fires spread
  4. Methods of extinguishing fires
  5. Advantages and limitations of the different extinguishing agents
  6. Choosing a method to extinguish a fire
  7. Portable fire extinguishers
  8. Fire hose reels
  9. Using extinguishers (practical)

Module 2

  1. Fire behaviour in buildings
  2. General policies & procedures in case of a fire
  3. General checklist for procedures in case of a fire
  4. General evacuation procedures
  5. Fire safety/prevention in industry - theory only (if presented off site)
Target Audience: General Employees, Fire Team Members and potential Fire Team Leaders (Floor Marshalls)
Where:  On or Off Site
Entry requirement: None
Duration of course: 8 Hours
Unit Standard: Aligned to US25220
A Certificate of Competence will be issued - Retraining recommended after two years

Practical exercise on site will depend on the availability of a venue for making a fire. We have a venue available suitable for making a fire.

Module 3: Optional for Fire Team Members

  1. Evaluation of Company Evacuation Policies & Procedures
  2. Fire safety/prevention in industry - Inspection of Workplace (if course is presented on site)
  3. Feedback and Report - based on practical exercise
Target Audience: Fire Team Member (optional) & Floor Marshalls (compulsory)
Entry requirement:
Competency Certificate Modules 1 & 2
Duration of course:
4 Hours
Where:
Module 3 must ideally be presented on site.
No Certificate Issued to Fire Team Members - Retraining recommended after two years

MODULE 3 & 4: FLOOR MARSHALL (FIRE TEAM LEADER)

Module 3

  1. Evaluation of Company Evacuation Policies & Procedures
  2. Fire safety/prevention in industry - Inspection of Workplace (if course is presented on site)
  3. Feedback and Report - based on practical exercise

Module 4


  1. Compiling reports of fire safety in different departments
  2. Management Skills
    • Team dynamics and establishing fire teams (performance agreements with staff)
    • Fire drills with the fire team - theory
    • Fire and evacuation drills - all employees and fire team - theory
  3. Community Safety Bylaws & Occupational Health & Safety Act
Target Audience: Floor Marshall (Fire Team Leader)
